Fairfield Technologies achieves SEI CMMI Level 3 rating, company-wide

Chantilly, VA- June 3, 2009 —Fairfield Technologies Inc. (FTI) was appraised as fully compliant at Maturity Level 3 of the Software Engineering Institute’s (SEI) Capability Maturity Model Integration for Development (CMMI®-DEV) version 1.2 in February 2009. As a team member on Raytheon’s NOAA contracts for the past several years, FTI gained experience and valuable insight towards enhancing its own methodologies for software development and delivery.

The CMMI Model, developed by the Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute, represents industry best practices for developing products and services. The CMMI Model encompasses five different levels of process achievement: Initial, Managed, Defined, Quantitatively Managed, and Optimizing. FTI’s achievement of Maturity Level 3 (Defined) represents a significant accomplishment and provides a solid foundation for continual process improvement. The entirety of FTI’s engineering and project management functions fell within the scope of the CMMI Maturity Level 3 appraisal.

“FTI’s achievement of the Maturity Level 3 rating is due in large part to the opportunity to support Raytheon, most recently as a member of the Raytheon AWIPS team,” said Kenneth Fried, President of FTI. “FTI’s exposure to Raytheon’s Six Sigma program and its CMMI Maturity Level 5 processes encouraged our own process improvements in recent years. We are pleased to be a part of the Raytheon AWIPS team’s ongoing support to the National Weather Service.”
