Fairfield Technologies awarded contract for Army Advanced Pharmacovigilance Project

Fairfax, Va., January 2, 2006 — Fairfield Technologies Inc. (FTI), a provider of IT and Managed Services solutions to government and industry, announced today that the company has signed a contract to design and prototype an Advanced Pharmacovigilance Tool (APT) for the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC). The contract funds initial research and proof-of-concept development.

Research in pharmacovigilance, or the practices of detection, analysis, and prevention of adverse effects from pharmaceuticals and ambient agents, is far-ranging and increasing in complexity. Data is multivariate, fragmented or inaccessible, and composed in divergent formats. Security of patient data increasingly limits access to raw data sets, and international cooperation in data sourcing is nascent. FTI’s research and development efforts will focus identifying the characteristics of pharmacovigilance data currently in use with the goal to create an efficient, adaptable data federation service and data warehouse to give researchers access to greater
amounts of secure data with which to track and monitor emergent signals. FTI will also
endeavor to present this data within a unified research portal in which data manipulation, analysis, and visualization can take place in one environment.

FTI’s expertise in data ontologies and complex data management derives from research in grid technologies and years of data transformation challenges with both government and commercial clients. The company’s receipt of the U.S. Army MRMC contract enables FTI to continue its ongoing research in data systems optimization and exploitation in local and global networks.
